Our Purpose

Our Purpose

The purposes of Section III include pursuing the following goals for women and men in a gendered society; to support scholarship and professional development; to develop leadership skills; to promote networking opportunities; and to deepen understanding of contemporary, gender-related concerns involving work, play, and family.

Section III applies psychoanalytic theory, research, clinical experience, and mentoring to these issues and others in which gender is a significant factor. The Section offers both scholarly and clinically oriented programs at the Division’s meetings, actively encourages its members in their political ambitions, and maintains liaisons with other groups that share its concerns.

Membership

Membership is open to all members of the Division of Psychoanalysis. Graduate student members are particularly encouraged to join in order to take advantage of the Section’s interest in supporting professionals in the early stages of their careers. Your support through membership is needed to continue our progress and our voice within the Division.

We Offer

In return for your support, the Section sponsors two panels a year on topics relevant to gender issues, one at the Spring Meeting of Division 39 and one at the national APA Convention. It also offers members the chance to develop experience in leadership and provides opportunities for networking, mentoring, and support of scholarship.
